I EMPHASIZE that history matters, especially when we're talking about culture, ideas, schooling—about how we can move forward in a more humane way.
My name is Ashlyn Campbell, and I am a doctoral student in the School of Information at the University of Michigan and an awardee of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, Rackham Merit Fellowship, and GEM Fellowship. My research explores what occurs after students adopt generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in computing education, focusing on unpacking these experiences by centering the knowledge students already bring and exploring approaches to ensure students have the opportunity to shape the future of AI. I have a Bachelor's in Computer Science and Sociology from Georgia State University (GSU). During my time at GSU, I founded and led the RISE in Computing Stars, a research-informed intervention for freshmen college students in computing alongside Dr. Anu Bourgeois. Additionally, I worked as a research assistant with the Human and Technology Lab at Clemson University and completed internships at companies like Microsoft. Outside of my professional experiences, I am passionate about academic & professional mentorship, STEM outreach, and public scholarship. As a Minority Serving Institution (MSI) Ambassador at the University of Michigan Rackham PACE, I work with a diverse team to create opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to learn about and thrive in graduate school. In my free time, I enjoy writing whatever comes to mind on my substack.
